Gallery displays all images on device

The Gallery displays all images on the device including icons / images used by applications. How do I choose to display only those pictures taken by the camera and specific folders on the device sdcard?

Add a file called .nomedia to the directory that contains the images you want to hide. If you mount the sdcard and seach for all jpg's, you'll find a lot more, look in those directories that you are not seeing in your Gallery. You''ll find the .nomedia file just copy that and past it into all directories that contain pictures that you do not want displayed in your gallery.

Hope this helps

A warning on that .nomedia file. Under certain circumstances, adding a .nomedia file to a directory that already has pictures in it will cause the Media Scanner to delete them.

Issue 3692 over at code.google.com has the details.

I haven't lost any files, and I have a clean looking gallery

So, if you lose any, You won't complain then right? Just something to think about....

No,
he may have pictures that he choose no to show up in gallery. I am the same way. I have pictures that I have on my phone that I want, but at the same time when people look at my phone and go into gallery I do not want said picture to show up.

We understand that there may be photos or pictures he doesn't want to see or others to see.

I think what Backnblack was saying is, it's a known problem, don't complain if at sometime, program icons or pictures get deleted.

Ok, a little twist on the OP's question. I don't want to hide anything, but I'd like to SORT my pictures. Rather than have a big blob that shows all pictures, I'd like to get a directory structure presented to me that I can move through. Does the built-in Gallery do that or will I need a 3rd party app?
