Gallery thumbnails missing / messed up after new ROM

I installed safestrap v2.10 last night and tried the JB ROM. It worked fine, but when I got back to my unsafe OS (original D3 .906), many of the thumbnails in my image gallery are missing and don’t seem to rebuild. Sometimes a few rebuild, but when I scroll and then come back, they may be gone. very strange
I saw a suggestion to go into Settings->Applications->Manage apps and try deleting the data and cache for the gallery app, but that doesn’t work (and cache was grayed out).
Any suggestions?

I think you have to clear the cache for media storage, though it will also have to rebuild your music library too including the ringtones you have set.
