I just read about Gingerbread having Near Field Communication (NFC) as one of its features. I'm a relative noob to the more advanced stuff but I've been using Android apps on cell phones for about a year and a half, just for reference.
Wikipedia's NFC summary is fascinating. Does anyone know what nationwide apps are already in place or what's coming soon that'll use NFC technology? To date, I've not seen the 'N' Trademarked Logo anywhere but I honestly haven't been looking because I didn't know what NFC was until this morning. What a great concept! I like the idea of sharing info without having to get two Bluetooth systems to recognize and communicate with each other - the streamlining efficiencies of NFC really open the doors to countless ideas that for some, won't be comfortable to use but for other more adventurous and technically inclined people, will be pretty darn awesome.
Also, does anyone know if NFC can be toggled on and off in a Thunderbolt running Gingerbread?
