A Mannheim, Germany court ruling from Judge Andreas Voss just threw out one of Samsung's patent lawsuits against Apple, relating to the use of the 3G/UMTS standard. However, this isn't all bad news for Samsung, as the same judge also threw out one of Apple's lawsuits as well. In fact, he threw out Apple's patent dispute over the slide-to-unlock feature they recently sued over. This is somewhat ironic as an earlier Munich court upheld a similar slide-to-unlock claim by Apple against Motorola.

Hmmm... it would seem that it really does matter what judge you get. Regardless, both companies have already said they will appeal these decisions. And the never-ending war continues... our future great grand-kids will probably have invented anti-matter warp drives by the time these two companies finish their patent wars.

Theres a big difference between slide to unlock and 3G/UMTS standard patents. Oh well, one down and dozens to go i guess.
