Ginger-problem auto turn on.

After updating my firmware last week when I shut my DX off it will turn itself back on. After 8 minutes one time I timed it.

I've tried a battery pull reboot. It didn't turn back on after installing the battery but did the next time I shut down.

I called Motorola and after lots of hold time and getting transferred around the only possible solution they had was reformatting which I don't want to hassle with because I will have to load everything again.

I like to turn my phone off at night so I don't get woken up and it saves a lot of battery allowing me to charge every few days.

Anyone have this issue? Solutions?

The other problem I have been having is I have to swipe my lock several times sometimes to get it to unlock. I've missed a few calls because it would not let me answer. Annoying.

Yep, this is a common Gingerbread problem. I suggest using the Sleep mode which is just as good as turning it off and it has not yet un-Sleep-ed. That's about as good a solution as you'll find unless you go back to Froyo.

As for the swipe lock, you might consider this goofy suggestion - call yourself and practice. That's the best way I've found to get good at it. Just be mindful of the motion and force yourself to do it correctly. It just takes some muscle memory build up over time and you'll overcome this.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually so far after it turning back on one time after the reboot, with several more tests it did not turn again and stayed off. So maybe that worked.

I haven't tried the sleep mode yet. What exactly does it do? Maybe I can find a description somewhere.

Maybe that is why the phone turns back on, they are pushing the use of sleep mode. Why would they be pushing sleep mode? Maybe so they can always have access to your phone 24/7. I don't know but it seems dubious.

As far as unlocking. I've had this phone for over a year and have swiped the lock hundreds of times and until about a month ago had no issue with it always working. A friend with an I (cough) Phone said it happens to him sometimes lately too. Maybe it has something to do with the touch screen degrading over time.

Sleep mode is like standby on a Windows PC. Not sure how low power it is or if the phone is actually "off" or "just barely on". Still, when I use it, the phone does not come back on. It's worth a try.
