Anyone know if and when the gingerbread OTA will be available for install on the Droid 2?

End of the 3rd quarter is what is being reported

From my Liberated DROID2 at 1.25ghz

Hopefully it will come with an unencrypted bootloader, if moto holds true to what they said about removing encryption around end of 2011

Good luck with that. Highly doubtful, but it would be nice

Just cuz were gettin gingerbread doesn't meat their also gonna unlock the bootloader...and motorola said they "were gonna start unlocking the bootloaders on NEW devices"...though there's is a lot of doubt that will even happen

We'll be lucky if they even release GB officially. Even if they do, is there a good reason for leak users to change over?

Tappin' and talkin' with Tappatalk

THAT is the question for me. I have been running the rooted leaked GB on my D2 since the day it launched and have been pretty happy. No major issues.

Same here. Really not looking forward to OTA update unless it can top the leaked/rooted version.

Sent from a D2 runnin GB.

Everybody talkin about getting gb ota update....hell I would be happy if got a leaked version for my global! Period. Official or not, its still gb and unlike you d2 guys who been runnin leak and are ready for ota. Id be content with leaked gb at the moment lol. Just sayin...

The X just got the official GB ota last week, most of the X users should have it by the beginning of June

Motorola has confirmed that the droid 2, droid 2 global, and droid pro will be getting Gingerbread sometime this summer. The droid x will get it a few weeks sooner.

Actually moto said they would be unlocking bootloaders on their devices....they never said only new devices. It doesn't matter to me either way, better devices are/will be out and most people have already moved on.

Even so, why would motorola unlock bootloaders from older devices, they would loose money cuz then ppl wouldn't want to buy a newer device as much...they will most likeley start doing it to upcoming phones if they do decide to take that path

Motorola has nothing to do with the decision to lock the bootloader on this phones. Decisions like that are made by the carrier. Read motos press release about unlocking the bootloaders and you will find that buried in there.

If that were true, then why would verizon post on twitter saying you CAN activate and unlocked bootlader phone on their network...and why did motorola post on their site sayin that late 2011 they will start unlocking their bootloaders...its the manufacturers. That's why htc and sony both announced that why will be unlocking their bootladers
