Droid 2 Global owners will soon have a bigger smile on their face. According to Droid-Life, Verizon may soon be serving up the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Droid 2 Global. The "soak test" could begin as early as the end of the week for a select group of D2G owners. If all goes well, we would expect the mass release to follow. Unfortunately this update would not include the original Droid 2, so we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.

More proof that the bog-standard Droid 2 is the redheaded stepchild of the Droid world.

No, that title goes to the Eris still. Droid 2 is like Sloth from the Goonies, locked away and wanting nothing more than a damned Baby Ruth!!!

DROID 2 WILL GET GINGERBREAD
Verizon To Start Testing Droid 2 Global Gingerbread Distribution
Last month, Motorola promised Droid owners that Gingerbread was on its way for everything released since the original Droid; starting with the Droid X, the rest of the family including the Droid 2, Droid 2 Global, and Droid Pro would be getting Gingerbread updates this year. While those last three were given an ETA of "before the end of the third quarter", Motorola isn't wasting any time getting them together. Verizon already has the support documents for the Droid 2 Global's update live on its site, and is reportedly ready to start testing the update distribution later this week.
