Gingerbread

If you are not rooted why not just install the official update zip file in stock recovery? It's really easy. It's the same exact thing as the OTA and you won't have to wait. It'll take you a few minutes to do it, if you are on stock 2.2.1...I did it yesterday in like 5 minutes.

wait patenitly for the OTA...

... or read the thread thats right below yours.

This waiting is getting old! I thought I would have it already! I guess we will have it by weeks end.

Cece I take it you are on unrooted stock 2.2.1 Froyo and waiting for the OTA to reach your phone? I could take till the end of the week. Why not download this file...

Get Update.zip on Wupload.com

Put the zip in your SD card and make sure it's named update, and then go into stock recovery and install it. Boom, you'll be on the official stock .596 2.3.3 Gingerbread. You won't be waiting anymore.

Just wait for the OTA. This is only a soak test release and will be revised by motorola/verizon for final bug fixes.

Wow its that easy? I'm sort of scared that I'll mess up something though. Thanks for the instructions I may give it a try anyway ;-)

Rocko if you've tried all the leaks up to this latest .596 build like I have, you realy don't notice any differences whatsoever. I'm sure you'll see no difference in the update zip file and the OTA from Verizon. Verizon's "bug fixes" will be tethering detection and root blocking at best.

You know this for sure or its just your opinion? :icon_evil:. When the final comes out you will waste time going back to 2.2 and grabbing that release.

Cece do you know how to go into stock recovery? You won't mess anything up. After you place the update files on your zip card, make sure it's named update. Power off your phone, them turn it on holding the home button and power button at theh same time. You'll see an exclamation point and a triangle. Press the search button and recovery will comes up. Navigate to the install update zip option with the volume up/down rocker, and select it by pressing the camera button. It will do it's thing and when it's done select reboot phone with the the camera button and you'll be done, and you'll be all set. You won't even have to reset all your widgits or anything, and be on Gingerbread.

the way things have been going it will prolly be up to .6 before theyre done tweaking it (and locking the bootloader).

Tell me and show me any difference physical/performance difference between .588 to this .596 release man. Can you find any? I haven't seen any difference. If Verizon releases a .597 build, I'll try it. Ask P3Droid if there will be a huge difference. He is the Droid X master. I am definitely not an expert nor claim to be, but I know enough to tell there ain't much difference between the builds. Look at the progression of .588 to .595, and .596...they blocked root with .595 and .596 is detecting tethering from what I've heard. That's what Verizon/Moto has been working on with the leaks. Blocking features and trying to stifle the devs.
