Gmail app constantly says it's syncing

Every time I open my gmail app it says something about gmail is syncing, email will appear shortly. It has been doing this for weeks now and no matter how long I wait, it won't work. Is there anything I can do?

I'm having the same issue. Started about 2-3 weeks ago. Haven't figured anything out yet..
