Hey guys, first time user needs some help. I am having problems with my Gmail Auto-Sync. My phone does not automatically update anymore as of 2-3 weeks ago. When I go into Settings, Accounts, Gmail, the check boxes are not there anymore next to email and calendar sync. Has anyone else had this problem and know how it is fixed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

Let me get this strait. Your gmail no longer auto retrieves? and when you go to your settings to try to turn your auto sync back on there are no boxes for you to check?

Settings -> Data Manager -> Data Delivery

check the box for Background Data

If this is unchecked, you cannot auto-sync anything.

That is correct.

The box for Background Data has been checked. Everything else I have on the phone auto-syncs except for my Gmail.

I tried re-starting my phone and tried re-installing the Gmail app with no luck as well. My next step is to restore the phone to factory settings, but I really want to try to avoid doing that if possible.

I'm having the same problem - my Gmail just stopped sync all of a sudden. I have to sync on my own and can not find the option to auto-sync. Also background data is check - Help us please!

I FOUND THIS ON ANOTHER FORUM - IT HELPED ME AND WORKS NOW. Hope this helps

Hey guys, I just created an account over here to give my opinion on what might be happening.

1st, never listen to a VZW customer service rep. That is like calling my mom and asking her to change my router settings. It's confusing for them and makes you more stupid.

Below is what I posted on a thread over at droidforums.net:

"Do you have the power control widget on one of your home screens? If not, long press on a home screen, Widgets > Power Control. See if you have toggled off the data sync (it is the one 2nd from the right, looks like arrows in a circle).

If you have that toggled on, the next thing I would try is go to Settings > Data Manager > Data Delivery > Make sure background data is checked, and that data is enabled.

If you have done the first two steps, the next thing I would try is go to Settings > Accounts > click on your gmail account > make sure syncing contacts, gmail, and calendar are all checked.

Another thing to try is go to Settings > Applications > Manage apps > All > Gmail > Clear cache & Clear data. It will take a minunte or so (or longer depending on your inbox size) for the app to sync but you should be all good after that.

Thats all I got on this issue. It seems like I was having this problem sometime ago, and these steps helped resolve it.

One other thing, I use an app called Quick Settings, I think its pretty sweet. It's just like the power control widget (but its an app, not a widget) but you can also control mobile data, along with wifi, gps, bluetooth, auto syncing, and much more. Some people don't like it, b/c it's not an actual widget, but that doesn't bother me. Hope this helps, let us know if this resolves your problems."

Thanks so much for your post. I had the same problem, did what you suggested and I am back in business.

The only way to make the boxes in gmail settings appear is to do a factory reset. I brought my droid x into the vzw store tonight, and they tries every other option, but the factory reset is the only thing that worked.

CRAsch,
I stand corrected.. Your method clearly works! 2 hours of my life wasted (not including re setting my phone up again). I will never set foot in a VZW store for service unless I check into this site first! Thanks!
