Golf/GPS Applications with GPS management?

Are there any golf aps that manage the gps utilization so that the battery is conserved? What I have used has the gps function operating the entire round, and my actual usage is occasional.

It would be nice to have a button to tell the app to get the gps reading (optional settings for how long to leave this on… ie- 1 to 5 minutes), and then the gps turns off until the next time it is needed.

+1 for me too. I only really use it for the final approach to the green.
I think the problem is that it takes a few minutes for the GPS to gain lock when turned on, so you wouldn't have access to the distance information instantly and the wait time is not practical.
