I have a mac and I use Handbrake. It works perfect and it's easy. (and free) There's a tutorial on here somewhere to give you the settings. But if you're on a pc, this information is useless.
Search for a converter for the iphone or ipod touch. Dvd catalyst is a good one but you have to pay for it. (unless you *cough cough* dl a torrent of it)
I had handbrake already (Im on a pc) but the rip is worthless for me. its all pixilated and the sound is choppy. I used the settings I found on a guide for handbrake to droid x. I think I will end up going with catalyst 3 this Friday when I get paid.
I use the Droid HD settings in DVD Catalyst 3 and it looks great on the big screen through HDMI. I takes a bit to convert but it is worth it to me. I converted Avatar in the Droid setting and it looked ok, but went back and did the Droid HD setting and it looked much better to me.
With DVD Catalyst you just pick the device you have and the settings are already set, easy as hell!
Thanks FireDroid! I do have a followup question though. I do not see an option for Droid HD. I have Droid, Droid HQ, and Droid HQ2. Is the HQ, or HQ2 the setting you are referencing? I have the full version of Catalyst.
No problem, I appreciate the info. I assumed HQ = high quality, but being a new droid convert, I was unsure if there was a droid hq model out there somewhere. lmao
I use RockPlayer too... I use it to play TV shows that are 1 hour (45ish without commercials) and they are about 350mb each. They are at 624x352 and it just looks great on the droid x screen.
If you are looking for something that runs it to an MP4 file, FormatFactory, found at Format Factory - Free media file format converter, is free, capable of converting from almost anything to anything else...
If you have trouble getting it straight off of a DVD, you can use DVD Decrypter, found at DVD Decrypter, is also free and capable of removing the copy protection from most movies. Be warned that it copies the contents of the disc to your hard drive with the most free space (changeable) and that a single layer disc is 4.7gb and a dual layer one (most movies use this) are 8.5gb. This is legal if you own the movie, so no worries there
