I initially didn't have a gmail acct. When I setup an account, I noticed a number of downloads that were apps. I do not want any of these...how do I delete them? Thanks...

if you meant the apps that came pre-installed on your phone, then you cant delete them unless you install a rom or root your phone(im not sure about this one).

Just like pinoy_92 indicated, the "downloads" you saw were actually updates to pre-installed apps on the phone. You CAN delete the updates and then un-check the "update automatically" on the market page for each of those apps and then they will not update without you selecting "update" on the market page or re-selecting the automatic update. You can also "hide" apps that you "don't want" by going to the App Tray and pressing and holding on each of them, then choosing "hide". If you delete any of the apps after rooting the phone, you run the risk of preventing future updates from working properly. You can "Freeze" those apps once you are rooted, by using Titanium Backup or other similar app. Once frozen, they will not run in the background but will ALWAYS be on the phone until Motorola allows them to be removed.

There are a couple of those apps which CAN be deleted, but not all of them. Try to uninstall them one by one, and those that can be removed will succeed, the others will fail proving they are permanent parts of the ROM installed at the factory.
