Screen Burn In and even simple image retention has plagued OLED displays for years. It's one of the reasons LCD purists exist. While Samsung has nearly perfected their top of the line display tech LG is just getting started here. Pixel 2 XL devices have a blue tint when the display is even slightly tilted giving the device less than optimal viewing angles. That is forgiveable for some, but the larger problem that seems to plague the first batch of Pixel 2 XL devices is screen burn in.

Many devices that have been in use for a few weeks display pretty nasty burn in mostly revolving around the navigation bar. This could be rather annoying when viewing videos and other content in landscape. That being said this issue may just be blown out of proportion. What we might be seeing here is simply image retention. The only real way to know if this is burn in or retention would be to use the device long enough to duplicate the issue then turn off the device for a few days to see if the burnt in image goes away. If so we have image retention which can be found on just about any OLED display out there. If not we have full blown screen burn in.

Google has launched a full fledged investigation to address this sticky situation. I am sure they will get to the bottom of this, and give us an update soon. I am hoping that this turns out to be a non issue. Have any of you experienced this burn in on the Pixel 2 XL?
