google maps latitude question

Me and a few of my friends have the motorola droid . i seem to notice if i add them as 'google friends' i can view them on google maps using the latitude feature.

is this their exact location? or is it just one location (like their home)
would i be able to basically spy on them and see where they are on google maps?

Latitude has privacy features that allow users to block their location or set a static location. If a user closes their map and leaves it running in the background it will report their cell location vs Sat location. Once the user opens maps and hits "my location" it will lock to the sat location.

Hope this helps. I am no expert but this is what I have observed.
