Google maps/navigate

I have a droid1 and I used to use Google maps ALOT! I haven't used it for months. But now that I use it again for traveling I noticed that my phone gets VERY hot!!! So hot that it wont charge until it cools down. And it will drain the battery in about half an hour. I don't remember it doing it before. I'm sure I would have because I used it alot. Don't know if it has anything to do with the Verizon update months ago or not. Like I said its a droid1. Rooted and running liquid gingerbread. But don't think that has anything to do with it. It was happening before I rooted the phone. Any ideas on what's causing it?

That's typical. See if you can move your device in front of an AC vent. There are really no software fixes for this. Extensive use of your GPS receiver and GPS app will cause heat. Heat will adversely affect your battery.
