Does using Google Maps and navigation feature use up monthly data allowances???

The reason I ask is, up til now I've always been at say, .2 GB for the 30 day billing cycle. I'm on day 29 and I've used over .5 GB of data. Almost all my web browsing is done on WiFi.

I recently made several road trips that required me to use my Google Maps navigator for a few hours at a time.

Does using Google Maps use data??

Also if I purchase a new device like a GS3 or a Razor Maxx HD and pay full retail price, will I be forced out of my unlimited data plan from VZW ??

it uses data whenever it recalculates your directions.
