I was using Google navigation to get to my destination. I received a phone call. The Nav voice was shouting over our conversation. Is there a way to disable the Nav voice while on a call?

That happened to me. It was awesome. I was 'naving away and then my girlfriend called. So I'm talking to her and suddenly I hear "in 800 feet, turn left on such and such drive". I was like "omg, did you hear that?" and she was like "ummm, no, are you an idiot or what?" and I was like, "that voice, there was a robot chick telling me things just now" and she was like "hmmkay". And then a couple minutes later she was talking and I heard it again and I was like "Listen! Listen. Do you hear her"? And she was like "Her?!" Who the F are you talking to? And I was like, the chick in the navigator thingy.... Ha ha.
On a more serious note, I like that an incoming call doesn't over ride your directions. I would hate to get lost just because someone called in the middle of a trip. Also, wouldn't it suck to not be able to answer the phone just because your navigating? Thats how my Dare was, you could not do both. I love my Droid!

Seems like a double edged sword. I would think if you are on the highway it won't be as big of a deal since updates would be far and few between.

I agree in the downtown areas or where actual directions are needed, I wouldn't want to get lost becasue someone interupted my navigator.

OMG!!

My question was not asking for the relative merits of the Nav voice talking or not talking over a phone call. After driving to meet a client, and having the Nav voice talk over another client's call, I have the mental capabilities to discern that this occurrence is not constructive to prudent business practices, for my business.

My question is... can someone give me a method to stop the Nav voice while on a phone call

You can 'mute' the navigation voice is you press the menu button in maps....

That works, but it requires a lot of steps. The incoming call screen opens over the Nav screen, swipe to answer call, appologise to client for Nav voice, switch back to Nav screen, press menu button, press mute button, switch back to Nav screen, so you don't miss a turn, tell client, you are back.

I was hoping I would hear "there is an app for that"

I've had this happen to me, and now I keep the Nav voice muted unless I'm downtown and know there will be a lot of turns coming up. Easiest way is just to use the volume rocker while in maps.

On the other hand, the one time it did interupt a business call, I excused myself and explained the situation, and when I arrived, all he wanted to do was play with my Droid!

The bottom line here is this...

DROID ROCKS!!!! Sorry that the OP did not have as much fun as I did when the navigator chick busted in. Hey, can i get a navigator chick voice with a British accent? That would be hot!!!! I would use the nav app while I was walking around in Wal Mart, or walking to the bathroom... Werd.

LMAO!!!

I used to use an estimating program that had voice commands and responses so you could keep your eyes on plans while doing data entry. She had the SEXIEST british accent. To the point that if we were bored at lunch, we would see what silly sentences we could make her say by finding the midi files and linking a few together.

About 10 years later I was interviewing companies for software and low and behold, she's now a salesperson assigned to my account! She got a huge kick out of hearing the stories.

Sorry, a little off topic.....

Think she would be interested in being my own personal navigator voice? Feel free to send her my picture, i look just like my Avatar.

Yes, there is a British English version of the voice for Text to Speech. If you are set for all apps to use the same settings, then go to Menu -> Settings -> Text to Speech -> Language and select "British English"

If you don't have "Always use my settings" selected on the Text-to-Speech settings screen, then you need to set the voice inside of each app that uses it.

I love it when we run into situations where DROID DOESN'T.
The thing is that in many cases Droid probably can with an app to modify its behavior whereas other devices tend to be stuck with what comes out-of the-box.

Hence why I opted to to get an Android phone over my current Env Touch and Blackberry. Open source is full of WIN.
