It appears that not all of the technology giants in the world feel the need to battle each other in the courts. Samsung and Google have just signed a 10-year cross-licensing deal which covers a "broad range" of technology patents. Of course, Google and Samsung have never really been bitter enemies, nor even direct rivals, so their agreement shouldn't come as too much of a shock.
Still, it would be nice to see other companies follow this example in the spirit of cooperation instead of dissension. To that end, both Google and Samsung offered some subtle jabs at other OEMs who can't seem to play nice. A Samsung representative had this to say, “Samsung and Google are showing the rest of the industry that there is more to gain from cooperating than engaging in unnecessary patent disputes.” And, Google offered the following, “by working together on agreements like this, companies can reduce the potential for litigation and focus instead on innovation.”
At least now we know that for the next 10 years we are unlikely to see much in the way of court battles between these two tech titans. Wouldn't it be nice if others in the industry would do the same?
