Google Voice App v 0.30, BUGFIXES!!

The double-sms bug has been fixed in Google Voice. It's not available in the Market, yet, but you can extract it from the Android 2.1 rom. Instructions on installing it are on droidipedia here:

Google Voice - Droidipedia

Note: This update works on Droid 2.0/2.01 as well. It is called "Voice" instead of "Google Voice" which looks much better on the icon, as well.

EDIT: Thanks go to jared.gould for posting on Issue 5115 - android - Double SMS sending when using GV App - Project Hosting on Google Code and whoever originally found it if it wasn't him, I just reposted it. :-)

have you guys had issues with it not refreshing? i had it set to refresh every 5 minutes and it's been fine up until the past few days. it won't refresh for hours.

Worked for me, thanks. I just need to give permission to install apps that were not downloaded from the marketplace.

How in the holy heck do you get Google to give you an invite? Is Voice really that valuable?

As someone who had Google Voice back when it was GrandCentral, I can honestly say that yes, yes it is :)

Though, I admit, I didn't get to fully unlock its full potential until I got my Droid. I love having it on my phone, if for no other reason than the free SMS.

Just installed this, didn't send a double text on my first attempt which is a good thing! I thought there was an issue, as my original shortcut to Google Voice on my home screen was dead. This is because, as mentioned, the app is now just called "Voice." I just dragged this to my home screen and all was well again.

Works great thanks for the link!

Still no immediate notification fix yet though :(

The immediate notification problem isn't likely to be one that has a possible fix. The problem is that Google Voice inbox is handled with polling, while native text messaging, voicemail, and gmail are all push. Push lets the server send the notification to the phone immediately, while polling requires that the phone continually check for an update.

The only way to "fix" the problem is
A). to change the polling interval to a much smaller number, like 1 minute. This is going to KILL your battery.
B). for verizon/google to work on a way to get custom push notifications for apps.
C). a tie-in with gmail so that the same mechanism that tells you about new emails can tell you about new google voice messages/texts.
