Google Voice Issues After Update

Ok, Google Voice is doing a couple of strange (annoying) things. The first thing--which it was doing intermittently before the update but does it much more often now--is when someone calls me on my GV number I must hit 1 to connect (is there a way to get rid of that?). Unfortunately--like so many other phone apps--the phone app doesn't default to having the number pad visible (never understood that) so I must hit the number pad button then 1. Most of the time (after the update) when someone calls me on my GV number it shows up on screen just long enough for me to ID who it is (after unlocking the phone) before blacking out the screen. Can't get the screen back up after that and I can't connect the call then. I remember this being a bug which was supposed to be worked out in the update, although not for GV.

The second--and much more annoying--problem is I cannot send a text message via GV any longer. Every time I try (after reboot/remove battery/etc) it force closes. It allows me to compose the message but once I tap done it shows the sending message, it whirls away for about 10 seconds then tells me GV has been forced to close. Since I tend to send a few texts this is an issue.

Anyone having these problems? Anyone figure out how to fix them? Is there a way to compose a message in Hanscent and send it via GV?

Thanks.

It sounds like you've got the feature turned on to have the ability to screen calls before answering (I have this feature on for a reason as my GV number is my office number)... you can turn this off from GoogleVoice website (not your app)....

I'm not having this problem... I answer the call, move the earpiece from my ear so the sensor allows me to see the screen, I touch "dialpad" and then hit "1" or "2" (depending on whether I want to send the caller to VM or not)...no glitches...this is how I've done it prior to and since the update.

Nope...haven't had this problem either... my BF sends me texts almost exclusively through GV and it hasn't been an issue... Maybe try to uninstall the app and then reinstall it? See if that works.

Yes, I have it screening calls (was on by default). Gotta go turn that off. The phone rings, phone app comes up and I should be able to hit the number button to get the keypad but the screen blacks out and I can't get it back (Why on earth don't they default to having the number pad display!!??). By turning off the screening this will alleviate this problem.

Good idea on uninstalling/reinstalling GV...duh! Let me try this. It worked at some point I know just don't know when it stopped working.

Thanks.

Glad I could help... let us know if the uninstall/reinstall does the trick. Maybe something went awry with the update...hopefully the reinstall will alleviate that. :)

Exactly how do I get google voice to play my traditional Verizon Wireless voicemail for the google voice voicemail? I dont want to re-record it. Is this possible?

Well, apparently, there was an update for GV available. So I installed that. Same issue. Going to uninstall and reinstall just don't have time right at the moment. I'll keep you posted.

I also posted in the Google support area. No answers yet.
