Google Voice Texts Coming Up In New Conversation

I have noticed this for a long time since using Google Voice, and found it quite annoying. I'm just now getting around to complaining about it.

I'll have one conversation open, where I'm texting someone back and forth. We'll stop texting for a few hours, and then when that person replies, it usually comes up in a new conversation. This does this on my Droid, as well as when I access Google Voice from a computer.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

It even doe's that on the web client as well. I think it has to do with the timestamps of each message. If the time gap between messages is to long GV would automatically start a new conversation thread for it.

That's what I thought for awhile, but one time I replied to a message, and when I received a reply not more than 2 minutes later, it was in a new conversation.

I think it has something to do with the "in-between phone number". My understanding is that when using google voice from the mobile phone is that it actually sends your text via DATA to the google cloud where it then sends the TXT message from some google owned actual TXT capable phone number. And lag in time between messages could allow google to rotate a new number in the middle to process the TXT conversion to data.

I have seen TXT messages come from the same person using the same phone, yet my GV client shows different numbers as the "from" number and they show up in new threads. And I know the other user is NOT using GV.

There's no access number involved with texting and GV unless you're using SMS forwarding (to send/receive GV SMS from a standard messaging app such as Handcent).

I really haven't noticed much of the OP's problem. My conversations seem to stay grouped unless there's a day or so in between messages.
