Google voice won't recognize phone number.

Today I downloaded the google voice app and tried to set it up. However, after putting in my voice mail pin, it cannot verify my phone number; Why is that?

I believe, like all relatively new Google programs, that GV too will be on an invitation only basis in the beginning. There are some forums I have seen that provide invites from users already using GV. I did some looking since I had the same exact problem as you.

yeah n1caboose is correct you need an invite you can go to the google/voice site and request an invite or its a thread in the General Discussions "google voice" people post when they have invites to send to people. You might want to try that.

If you can't wait then I suggest searching for a forum or some Android discussion group that has a community of people who are giving out invites.

It took about 2 weeks for my invite after requesting it in September

And if you don't get one in that 2 weeks, send for another. I was waiting and waiting. Sent a new request, and had one in about 1 week.
