Green Tint?

I literally have not had this phone more than 12 hours yet, and have found things that may drive me to return and select another phone instead. It absolutely bugs me with the ambient lighting or when you turn it off and turn the brightness down and everything looks green. Once you turn the brightness up, it goes away. I talked to a Verizon Rep on the phone, and she told me her friend has that phone, and doesn't have any kind of tinting.

Not to mention that speaker sucks because it starts crackling so high. I went from a Droid X (that was stolen, so I figured I'd upgrade) to this, and now I'm severely missing my X.

Does anyone else have problems like this?

Otherwise, I'd say this phone is perfect. I could probably stand the speaker, but the screen, I can't!!!!

Yep most Razr's screen have a bit of a tint. After having mine for a week I hardly notice anymore. I played with the brightness setting and could make it go away. Good luck

Sent my new Droid Razr Maxx

I could understand a blue-ish tint on it, since the screen itself. But there shouldn't be a green tint, and I was instructed to go to the store to get it swapped out.

My speaker was crackling as well and I swapped it at the store for another one and it fixed that issue. The screen is just going to be a preference issue, if it bothers you that much then you might go to a different screen type. I love the screen have since day one but I don't even see a tint anymore and I keep my brightness at the lowest 11%.

Actually, I went to the Verizon store today, and the guy told me there should be NO tinting and that it was a defect with the phone. He swapped out phones and the new one doesn't have it!

Get it swapped if you have it!

To a certain extent. It's better, but it still crackles when it gets too loud. I can deal with that though, the speaker itself is pretty loud anyways. I think having it more than half way is overkill.

I returned the Razr I bought for this reason. I was hoping that the MAXX might have fixed it. I have not made it to the Verizon store to check yet.

Its not technically a "defect" though, and if one phone has it, they all should. The issue is caused by an incorrect setting of the color temperature as well as an incorrect colorspace mapping. Green is way off the chart and not only tints the phone green at certain brightness levels, but any green icons, etc appear very "neon" instead of a more natural hue. Its equivalent to setting a new TV to "wide", "enhanced", or "expanded" color modes, which are all incorrect. But there is no way to change it to an accurate setting in the phone like you could a TV.

Like I said, it bothered me a ton. I thought the phone was killer and its certainly better with double the battery of the MAXX, but that color error is a deal breaker.

I found that Screen Adjuster from Netman works well.

I especially like the multifunction widget. It fits into a 1X1 icon area but gives you quick access via tap to both settings and brightness as well as the main function - off and on action (although the two other features are at the bottom left and right and are difficult to see). The Dev needs to increase the visibility of the two additional feature accesses on the widget, but it works now, you just have to remember they are there. Add + 6 for Red and +6 Blue at full brightness and your RAZR screen looks White instead of slightly Green. At lower brightness you need more Red and Blue.

If we could add profiles for various brightness levels, or if it had an algorithm that adjusts on a sliding scale between full brightness and 15%, perhaps by setting White at those two extremes and then having the software make an iterative adjustment to each based on the varying brightness accordingly then this would be the BOMB!

AHHHH... that IS cool. Maybe I will go get a razr maxx then... I will mess with this on the Droid X just to see how it is. Would be really nice if I could display patterns on it so my screen calibration software could function.

So you are saying the settings are global? It wont let you do a setting for 30%, one for 40%, etc?

There's an app that you can get to fix it. I think it's called screen fixer.

You are correct, not yet available on a sliding scale or presets for various brightnesses. I did give feedback asking for that ability. It's only a matter of time before someone does just that, but for the most part it works beautifully. If I need to adjust, I just hit the settings section on the icon (the Wrench) and make the minor adjustment. I do wish it had a better way to adjust other than just slidebars, since getting to a specific number between 1 and 255 can be challenging.

It also works quite well for dimming the display VERY LOW for night use in bed next to the wife!~~LOL!

At least the Dev was careful not to let you set the brightness to 0, otherwise you'd never be able to recover.

Kind of looks like it only does the color temperature of white though... not the hue and saturation of colors...

True. Still for what most people are looking for, this will accomplish the desired effect.

I'll post some pics for everyone of my phone with and without.

Yes compared to my Bionic this phone is very Vibrant in colour especially toward Green. This screen is similar to HDMI out on my Bionic. Since I have 2 droid Razr Maxxes, both have similar feature so this not a defect (maybe) and just the product itself. The speaker does crackle to both phones as both are very treblish. The solution I have is changing its media effect. i wonder if Verizon don't really give its customers new phone. I hate to have phone shipped to home now. I don't have trust in this company at all and this be the end of upgrading new phones to me. How can a new phone not sealed and had handprints on them??? Change phone if you hate its screen color, and sadly someone else will receive your phone as "brand new".

P.S: My only suggestion is to let your eyes adjust to this new phone, kinda like 3DTV. I thought my Bionic screen was colorful when I had it before upgraded it to razr. After I switch to razr maxx, my Bionic looks so fade out. The weird thing is my eyes still favored the fade out color and brighter screen as I had it for 6 months.
