GSM radio and Un-Simlock

GSM radio

Just to be on the safe side.

I know the Droid 4 has a GSM radio (Chip) I know Verizon (B)locked it and that there is no way to enable it within the stock rom.

I read in several threads that the Selfkang, Gummi and Cyanogen roms Do have a GSM option available. Before I start flashing I want to know if these options work. If I select GSM only, will I be able to really use the GSM network?
Just want to be sure before I start messing things up.

Better safe than sorry.

I hope someone out there can help me. Surely, I can't be the only one who wants to try a GSM Sim card in a Droid 4 right? ;)

The GSM block is in the radio firmware, not in the ROM. Flashing a new ROM will not enable GSM capability. We have to wait for VZW to release an update turning it on first.

Ah ok, thanks.

I bet that's not going to happen anytime soon since they contacted Gsmarena to modify their specs page :/

I believe it's supposed to be this year. They said something at CES about the D4, and some other phones having this ability. I think you can actually use the GSM radio on the ReZound.
