Handcent issue

I paid for a 4.99 membership when I had to activate my replacement phone in order to store all of and back up all of my texts online. Does Anyone know if this is a 1 time only service or is that something that constantly will update itself. I want to know if there is an option to constantly back up texts or do you have to purchase that feature every time you need it.
