Handcent: why does it ask me to choose from multple cell numbers...

...for one person when they are ALL the same number?

IE: I want to send a txt to Mike. In the TO: field, click the "+" button to see my contacts. I scroll till I find Mike. Check the box. Instantly a popup comes up and lists 2, sometimes up to 4, cell phone numbers for Mike, and they are ALL the same. So I have to check that box, then hit the return button to go back to the text. I use the "+" when I want to send to alot of people, so if this happens with everyone, it takes alot of time.

Why does it do this, and, more importantly, how can I get rid of it? It's a horribly annoying feature. I have the setting "only show cell numbers" checked, so at least it doesn't give me 6 phone numbers to choose from sometimes (including home/work).

Thanks in advance.

Open up your contact and scroll down to make sure there isn't duplicate information. I had this problem when I first transfered numbers over and had to go into my google account and delete the duplicates.

Ok, I'll try that, thanks.

Sounds like alot of extra work though - but if I only have to do it once and it solves the problem then I guess it'll be worth it.

You can actually log into your google account and click on find and merge duplicates under your contact tab.

I was having the same issue and it was because I backed up my contacts because I was getting a new Droid because my other one broke...

Long story short, I should have let my google account handle the contacts which it did, but I also imported the backup of contacts that I took from the broke phone.
