Hands-On Preview of Panasonic Eluga; Impressive Style but Light on Power

There is a ton of news rolling in from MWC today. First up, Engadget got some hands-on time with the Panasonic Eluga which we shared some details on before. Unfortunately, it turns out that the device isn't nearly as robust as previously leaked. While the folks at Engadget had great things to say about its elegant and refined look and feel, they were left unimpressed with the phone's performance. They shared their disappointment that the phone came with a 1GHz dual-core OMAP 4430, and running a heavily skinned version of Android 2.3.5, which made it feel a bit behind. Furthermore, they were also disappointed with the mediocre 1150 mAh battery.

Ultimately though, they were mostly impressed with the device. Here's a comment from their article,

There's no denying it: the Eluga is built to impress. From the deep blacks on its 4.3-inch qHD 960 x 540 OLED display to the sophisticated curve of the unit's smooth, matte back, this is one phone you'll want to brandish in public. Weighing only 3.6 ounces (or 103 grams), its 7.8mm thickness registers lightly in the hand and would make for an almost perfect grip were it not for the front's sharp edges. And keeping in step with the latest mobile trends, Panasonic's also imbued its beauty with a combo of water- and dust-proofing, in addition to NFC.

1150 mAh battery, are they joking? The Droid 1 has a bigger battery than that. So fitting that in the picture, the phone looks like it's low on battery.
