Has anyone ROOTEd the STOCK 2.1 yet?

I wanted to root the stock 2.1 so i can overclock it to 800mhz or 1ghz. That is the only reason I want to root. Does anyone know if anyone has made this happen? I know I need some sort of new KERNEL as well.... If anyone can guide me in the right direction on how to keep the stock 2.1 but rooted that would be great, thank you!

im not sure, But pretty positive, that 2.1 hasnt been rooted quite yet.

there are ways to do it. you need rsd lite. there are actually 2 ways to do it with rsd lite.

so it is doable.

a bunch of the custom roms are using the base kernel from the official 2.1 slightly modified of course.

I rooted stock 2.1

There is an excellent video at DroidLife.com on rooting a stock 2.1. It includes rsdlite, sprecovery and all you need to root.

It was easy and I was successful.

Look for 2.1 SP Recovery SBF (Apr 13 article)
This loads a root friendly recovery which allows installing a custom rom even if you are already on stock 2.1

I rooted 2.1 yesterday and I'm running Chevy's Simply Stunning V3.1 ... it works great I just followed the instructions on droid life and it worked fine... the only thing I noticed people saying is rsd lite doesn't work correctly on vista OS, I have XP and worked great and windows 7 seems to work.. but id say stay away for now if u have a vista based pc cause it seems to cause a boot loop with sprecovery.
