head phones disconnected

For the last two days my phone has been constantly telling me my headphones are disconnected for no reason. I've tried hard resetting it and actually plugging headphones in and out to get it to stop but about every ten seconds it just keeps popping up the message. Any ideas?

Did you try them in some other device?

shine a flashlight down into the headphone port and see if there is a lint ball in there. I have had to de-lint my headphone port several times in the past, not just on my Razr, but on other phones as well.

A small ball of lint could be causing the headphone jack to not seat properly.

its not that the headphones aren't working because they are. The problem is when I'm not using headphones it keeps telling me repeatedly the headphones are disconnected as if i just took them out.
