Backslash here!

A week from Friday I will be getting the DROID X. I am buying the unlimited data plan from Verizon and that should be $30 a month right?

I want to root my droid so I can use tethering for free. Sounds like fun!

:welcome: to the forum. Congratulations on the X.
If you rooted your Droid, you have voided you contract already. Try it. I used the wifi tether and no one came knocking at my door.

how would they be able to tell if i do it...?

I meant to say warranty, not contract.

I dont think VZW can tell if you wifi tether. The extra fee for tethering is to become a wifi hotspot. Where you can tether to 5 people. Thats what they dont want you doing without paying. I tether to a laptop and my bill never changes. I still get one every month.

i feel like the wifi tether can be used for more than one device though?

The extra fee is to become a hotspot legitimately and without rooting.

Rooting voids your warranty with Motorola, wifi tethering for free using root-only apps could theoretically cause Verizon to shut your service off.
