Help! Droid with a mind of its own....

I have the original Droid and I am having issues with it....I can't get the touch to work most of the time now and it will switch screens on its own. Even using the keyboard is challenging. This is driving me crazy. Any ideas? I have powered it on and off, taken the battery out. Works ok for a little bit then starts again. Can it be an app messing it up? I don't have many apps installed.
I am eligible for an upgrade but can't afford it right now.

Yes my phone will open the music player, scroll through my songs, choose 1 at random, and start playing it lol .....your problem seems a bit different though. When I get my screen wet or dirty it behaves as yours does. I think of it as the phone mistaking flaws or foreign objects on the screen for someone touching it. I've also heard that this happens more when the phones plugged into the charger but I haven't seen that one yet
