Let me preface this by saying I am not a complete [Edited by FoxKat for content]....

I have a friend that messages me with my location all the time.

Latitude is not on and as far as I can tell I don't have any "location sharing" apps

I have GPS enabled but I don't believe someone can just track my phone right?

Ask them? or you could turn off GPS.

Sounds like a fun prank, let us know when you find out what he/she was using.

make sure you do not have Google Latitude running. Turn off your wireless too.

If you gave your phone to your friend they most likely installed an app. Start by turning off your GPS, for now. Stop reacting when he texts your location "OMGWTF HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!"

Next look through your installed applications and see if you can find one that would do this, there are a few apps that will give you your phone's location if it is stolen or lost. Uninstall the app and re-enable GPS.

If you don't find anything, find out how to do a factory reset and reset your phone.

Also be aware that Twitter apps, pictures and other paps can use your GPS infor and embed it into your items.

There is a web site just for twitter users who use GPS to announce when they leave their house. I think its called WHOSGETTINGROBBED NEXT.COM or some such thing.

Latitude was on but location was hidden. I misspoke. I have no shady apps either. I did have Wireless, GPS and Use My Location turned on. It is kind of ridiculous is visible just to anyone. Thats more my concern.

I agree I saw a site that said that for $200 you could install this app on any blue tooth phone. It not only allowed you to remote activate the speaker, it also allowed you to see what sms mms ect the phone was sending and also what numbers were being called. It also allowed you to listen to the conversation. BUT the blue tooth had to be enabled on the phone. Now the "disclaimer" If you pay the $200 and it does not work then you are out of luck. He provided no tech support. He also had an iron clad agreement you had to digitaly sign. It said that once you buy the software online the sale is final. He will issue NO refunds. The only way to get the money back is if someone stole your credit/debit card and used it to buy this software. He furthermore stated that HE would prosecute the person that stole the card and used it. Frankly I think its a scam but I do know of software that is you can down load on the net that does things like this to cell phones.

At this point I am more interested in how it is done.

I went through all the apps. Nothing new was installed. Twidroid is on but automatic location posting is off.

Other apps I looked at where Where, Places, Google Sky and Maps/Latitude.

I am sure a hard restart would fix it but oh well.

Go to Settings> Applications > Running services and see what you have running.
