Help me mess with my D1

I've since moved on to HTC rezound (and like it a lot) and keep my stock d1 around to use on WiFi at home.
Thinking now I can use it to learn and experiment rooting, kernels, etc that I've never tried to do before.
Anyone have a good link to how to get started? Rooting 101 or something.

YW! Have fun! I rooted my og droid and it was empowering getting the most I could out of that thing.
