Help!!! New/used phone won't clear

Sorry for being such a nube...I bought a droid (a855) off of ebay. Thought that the main thing I had to worry about was if the esn was clear. I got it today and brought it to two different verizon stores and neither one could clear the phone of the apps/market place sign in for the previous owner. The esn was fine but can't seem to restore/completely clear the phone. I can use it to make calls, and I think I can remove the apps one by one, but can't sign into the market place to get my own apps. The only thing I can think of is that it looks like it has been "rooted". I looked and it does have the Superuser Permissions(lil ninja guy) app and Root Explorer app. I would really love to get everything cleared so I can use it. Trying to figure out if that might be what is causing the problem, if "unrooting" the phone will alow verizon to clear it, and the best way to do so. I would love any help, pretty pretty please!!!

Pretty sure they did. The first store did a few things a few times and the second store. Did somethings and thought they had it but then all the same apps and everything was still there.

Okay.

Then next up is flashing SBF. Since you want to wipe everything out on the phone this is your best bet if a hard reset didn't work.

That will talk you through the proper procedure and, I'm pretty sure, link you to the drivers and a copy of RSD Lite.

The SBF you want is the most recent one since you're not interested in rooting, so we'll go with FRG22D. I will then talk you through the manual update to 83D if you don't get the update notice immediately. Sound good?

That's the SBF. This is the manual update file.

Thank you, I will have to try this tomorrow! My only other question is that would I follow the same instructions if I might want to root it sometime in the future when everything is in my name?

If you want to root it you'd need to flash a different SBF. The procedure you'll want to follow from FRG83D is located in my signature. Link 2.
