Help updated gb w/o unroot

First off I want to say that I am a newbie here and want to thank All that help with these tech issues. You guys are awesome!
My issue is that I have a Droid 2 that was rooted. Basically I only to use it for the barnacle app. I left all else stock and didnt use any custom ROMs. The only thing I use SU for was to gain access to barnacle for wifi. I used the z4 root and followed the instructions posted here on this site. It worked great....THEN
My wife who is not tech savvy either, decide that she was going to update my phone because the prompt was on the screen. In doing so she never Unrooted and now I'm stuck with the new GB update. last night the battery was dying super quick (3 hours ) , can't use barnacle, screen freezes up.
Today it died after about an hour off the full charge. It will not even take a charge now. it keeps getting stuck at the Red Motorola symbol and stays there and says 0% charge.
What do I do and how can I fix this? Thank you very very much in advance for your help!

Did you try to factory reset your phone? Also were you successful OTA updating to 2.3 being rooted? Because as far as updating to gingerbread when you are rooted the OTA update should fail in that case you are looking at an sbf firmware flash to fix that issue. But I would try a factory reset first. Also it is important to use the motorola charger that came with your phone to avoid Electromagnetic Interference.

First and foremost, you need to find a charged D2 battery. Then, you should SBF. (The link is in my signature.)

Thanks to you folks I did the factory reset. It worked. I hated to lose my apps but it was a must to have a working phone. I was able to successfully save my photos and contacts which was important so I guess it was not a complete loss. I was able to get a complete install of the gb. I am slightly sketchy about doing root again. As i stated earlier I am obviously not a tech whiz and only rooted for the barnancle app. I know I do not even come close to using the phone in its Full capacity. Is the D3 root method worth it? How often do these new updates come out that would cause these problems?
