Help with new phone, and unlimited cutoff.

So I'd been reading around and saw there's supposed to be an unlimited cutoff June 28th? I'm curious how exactly this works. I have an upgrade scheduled to be available October 2nd, and wanted to get an opinionated guess as to how likely it is VZW would be willing to work with me on this one. As the thread topic states, I'm also unsure what phone I should be looking at to upgrade to. I'd been looking at the Droid 4 (Prefer to retain a physical keyboard) as I'll also look to have root, and I'm using a Droid 2 Global now. Obviously that'd get me a front-facing camera and 4G, which I was hoping to benefit from since there's a lot of downtime where I work.

Also, it's 10:52pm here or I'd have called VZW earlier and asked a few of these questions already, at this point I'd just like to be prepared for when I do call due to their representatives normally liking to deflect questions that would grant me a new phone.

Only way to keep your unlimited after the 28th is to purchase the phone no contract, which means paying hundreds of dollars. Or, don't upgrade. But you could also buy a phone on craigslist and activate it to your account.

Craigslist or Swappa for used. I prefer Craigslist to actually touch/test the phone. Or lose the unlimited.

Guess I'll bug VZW tomorrow to see if I can get an early upgrade to keep my unlimited data then, I plan on using wifi tether
through 4g to play games and web browse at work during downtimes. If not, I suppose I'll try CL. Thanks!

Just add a line for 9.99 a month, get a discounted phone, a maxx or what ever you like, and keep your unlimited, i did this 4 days ago to get my wife the maxx. And we still have our unlimited plan.

A couple people said they been able to get a early upgrade to a 4g phone here is what I was told so try this call *611 from ur handset and when the automated part comes say agent then ask the person if u can talk to a supervisor they will ask why... and ask for the m2 early upgrade.. and if not call and repeat..the reps say they can only do out to 30 days but the supervisor can make a exception

Did this exactly, and got a very friendly customer service rep who stayed on the phone with me for over an hour to make sure I could use an upgrade from another line to order a Droid 4 for upgrade price. Plan won't change, which is awesome as I intended to use the hotspot capability to stream movies at work during slow hours. Didn't have to talk to the supervisor directly, but it was cleared through one. Thanks kparks!

We did this when upgrading my wife to the Nexus last December. Activated an old dumb phone for my 7yr old daughter. The old dumb phone wouldn't do Family Locator. Eventually bought her a Samsung Intensity I on Craigslist for $60.

Just got mine put through, couldn't get the discounted online price. But I got a 4g phone and keep my unlimited for at least 2 more years.
