Many of the other smartphone manufacturers and several financial pundits scoffed at Motorola for trying to make a tech factory in the United States. They didn't think it was possible to build and run with with a sustainable return on investment due to the higher build costs and higher wages in the United States. It looks like Motorola will be having the last laugh now though.

Just yesterday a pseudo-grand opening ceremony was held at the Fort Worth, Texas-based factory. Several prominent people were in attendance including Motorola's CEO Dennis Woodside, Google's own Eric Schmidt and the Governor of Texas, Rick Perry. Apparently the factory has already ramped up production of the new Moto X significantly and is already hitting production targets of 100,000 per week shipped. Impressive numbers! Another great number to go along with this is that manufacturing facility has created more than 2,000 jobs.

Google decided they wanted to show off their subsidiaries new digs, so you can actually get an even better "ground floor" glimpse by using Google Maps street view right inside the facility! Here's a link to that: https://www.google.com/maps?cbp=12,...0.635147&t=m&z=11&source=embed&output=svembed

*Sidebar - incidentally, there's a rumor floating around the web that at this factory press event yesterday, Governor Rick Perry, after having the Moto X demonstrated to him, literally spiked his own iPhone on the factory floor. We haven't been able to find any pics or video of this to corroborate, so take it with a grain of salt, but if true, it would be quite humorous.

my guess is they are building here due to national security issues. the govt is probably giving motorola money for doing this. they're probably working together...

To a question Siri must have replied with a long stare at the cameras, other folks then finally said "uh I'm stuck on that one I don't know" whereas Rick said "AWHELLNAW NOT EVER AGAIN!!"

On KXAN last night (Austin) They did a quick story on the X and the factory. It's good to see that the phone is having some success. I wonder what the next iteration of this handset will bring.....hmmmm

Here's a link to that video of Rick Perry "spiking" his iPhone: See how the Moto X is made (video)

(He didn't actually spike it but basically tossed it on the floor at around the 45 second mark.)
