Hesitant on upgrading to 2.3.40

Hello all, new to this forum...

I bought my first Android-powered phone just over a month ago, a Droid X from Verizon, and it was all smooth-sailing up until this past Monday morning. The phone prompted me to perform a software update and me, thinking that this was commonplace and routine for a smartphone (having owned a Blackberry before this Droid), pressed yes without much thought.

The upgrade progress seemed normal and the progress bar was just about complete when a large, threatening yellow triangle with an exclamation point showed up on my screen. The phone then went black. I turned it back on and could not get past that god-forsaken bootloader screen that I'm sure we've all come to love.

Long story short, Verizon shipped me a new phone to replace the paperweight my original Droid X had become. I just received it yesterday evening and already this replacement phone is telling me to perform the same upgrade. I'm a bit terrified to authorize the upgrade a second time, fearing that this nightmare will happen all over again.

Sorry for the novel, but does anyone here have any suggestions as to how I can upgrade this phone efficiently and correctly and ensuring it won't fail? (I'm not rooting this phone or anything of that nature because I don't want to void my warranty)

I performed the what-I-thought-was-required upgrade the day before yesterday. I have been searching ever since to undue some of the feature changes. It's little stuff that bugs me. I use commas when I text. The previous OS allowed two clicks on the period key to place a comma - nice. The 2.2.340 killed that. and I cannot scroll the text screen any longer. I don't know what else is in store. I'd hold off.

Upgrade. You have a warranty if anything goes wrong Verizon will send you out another one.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of people do not have any issues with the upgrade. They just don't come into the forum and say, "downloaded upgrade, works great." You only see the people who have issues.

Ok, I will be "that guy" who comes in and says what no one else ever does...I have now downloaded and installed 2 OTA updates and have had no issues as of yet!

I have also not had the following issues":

Text messages out of date, time stamped wrong
Music playback cutting out/and or freezing the phone
Jittery scrolling from homescreen to homescreen
Undue/annoying lag of any kind
Have yet to get stuck on the M logo due to rooting or dicking around trying to make a nandroid back-up(still not 100% sure I have done this correctly)
Market fail to load or work after updating twice
Picture or video`s not showing in the gallery properly
SD card not showing/corrupted

Count me as 1 of the happiest people with my decision to purchase a Droid X...there really needs to be more of us speak up...dancedroid

I too am happy so far with the 2.2.340 and I came from 2.1:icon_eek: I turned my phone on two days ago before I left for work and up popped the "do you want to download now or later. I said later but when I got to work it already downloaded and installed the firmware:angry::angry: I wanted to hold off until I read more feedback and didn't know it would do it that soon again.

I did this...in fact I made a whole post about my complaints of the constant dx bashing. I deduced that the boards are good for sharing information, getting knowledge, and just plain ole *****ing.

"what evrrrrr"

I like it other than some signal issues and webpages freezing while loading.

I haven't noticed if the freezing music player issue was fixed. Also some miscellaneous texting things are better. And the dialer shows contacts when you dial now.

Saw your post so I checked for the update on my Droid X, and installed it. No problems whatsoever before, during, or after the upgrade.....

When you upgraded was your phone fully charged? That could be a problem also if your phone went dead while it was upgrading.

Yes, it was fully charged. I literally had it unplugged from the wall for 2 minutes before I initiated the software update process. I guessed it failed because it lost signal from wifi momentarily or something. I don't know.

Ok, maybe a slight problem.....

Once you do the upgrade, you may not be able to make calls until you remove your battery and reinstall it. You will be able to dial, but you won't hear anything (phone ringing, voices, etc) The local verizon rep said he has been pulling and reinstalling batteries all day to correct that problem. Phone works fine after that.....
