Hide Photos From Gallery

So is there any easy way to hide photos in my gallery? As I am writing this post it came to mind that I could put a . in front of the pictures I want to hide since my phone is rooted, but it would be really nice If it could be automated somehow. Maybe an app that does it for you, or adds an option in gallery to do so. Maybe I should have posted this in the app section... now I'm just rambling any ideas?

You can place a .nomedia file in any directory you don't want the media scanner to index. Check out the FAQ section of this site. Its use is described in detail there.
