High Data Usage

Hi Everyone,

Hoping someone can help. Before I posted this question, I searched around on these forums and Google for an answer, but I can't seem to find one.

Both my wife and I got Droids 2 weeks ago.

On my Droid, I sync my GMail and thus far have used 105MB, which seems pretty reasonable.

My wife's Droid, on the other hand, has consumed 2.6GB of data in the same time frame. But, her data usage makes no sense. Check it out below ... I highlighted some of the more crazier data transfers in red. I mean, really ... 939 MB worth of stuff downloaded at 5:13pm on 3/5? And around the same time the next day, 793 MB? And around the same time the next day, another 263 MB?

She was syncing w/ her work e-mail. But, we put a stop to that on 3/9. All she syncs with now is her MSN e-mail. But, at 5:55am this morning, 16 MB was downloaded. How? We were still sleeping, so she wasn't actively using the phone at this time.

I am trying to find an app that tells you what application is using what bandwidth at what time. All I can seem to find is apps that show you total bandwidth use, but I fear that will not help me solve this problem.

Much thanks to anyone w/ any suggestions. Super-Duper thanks if anyone has the solution! :)

- Chris

Hmmm, might want to talk to a Verizon rep about that....Sounds like a glitch or bug happening to your account or something. Good Luck

Does anyone else have a problem with insanely high data usage by the OS on this phone? My wife has this phone and if I look at the data usage for just one day Android OS is using about 30MB (that is more than my Galaxy Nexus uses in a month).

I have turned off all backups and try to have most auto update stuff only happen over wi-fi. I actually brought the phone to a Verizon store and they did not know why this was happening. I then called LG support and the woman told me "that is just the way the phone works"... but I think she just did not have any idea what she was talking about.

I am hoping to figure out a way to fix this (I am more than happy to root to fix the issue, but I am not sure what simply rooting will do... I would assume that some settings would need to be changed as well).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try installing OS Monitor (here) It will tell you what is going on pretty much all the time if it's running.

Hi... I have installed OS Monitor, but I don't see how that will tell me why the OS is using mobile data. I can see how much memory and CPU it is using, but not what it is using mobile data for. Can you give me any instruction on this?

Thanks!

Watch the process screen to see what's going on in the background. You can also use Data Traffic Monitor (here) which may be able to pin it down a little better.
