I got my dx Monday, I rooted it, got Titanium backup, got bootstrapper, and I'm thinking about darkslide. Am I doing too much seeing that this is my first time doing anything besides talking and texting?

I've been doing a lil research on the roms, I understand everything I've done so far, I'm not gonna do something that'll have me going back to my old phone before the week is over lol.
I am fairly new to the android scene (2 months) and I had the same questions as you. I lurked around this forum and learned what roms do and why they can make your phone do certain things/look certain ways. One member has video tutorials on flashing roms and it is really easy. As long as you have a backup of stock I say go for it. It's definitely worth it.
+1 for having a Backup of the Stock rom made immediately after rooting.
You should also read up on, and gather everything you need for flashing your device with RSD Lite and an sbf file, because sometimes that is the only thing that will save your device.
This file is also good to have on the root of your sd card as well. Almost as good as an sbf file. It's like an sbf in a zip file. The only downside, and it's a big one, is that you have to be able to boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery to use it.
I'm up and running darkslide 4.2 now, got my backups saved to my sd card and my comp, really liking the new rom, I appreciate all the pointers and help, you guys are awesome!!
Let me know how you like darkslide. I have been curious about trying that out. Liberty is the first rom I flashed and I like it a lot so I haven't tried out any others.
