Horrible 3G reception

Occasionally I will get 3 bars but was used to getting full bars on my OGD. I have CDMA only selected in network mode. With the OGD you could dial *22899 and it would re-active the phone and that seemed to help.
Any ideas? factory reset? bad radio? wait for 4.0.3 and see if it gets any better?
