So what are your thoughts on an in-house cell phone booster? I'm not getting 3g service inside my house. So i'm thinking that when Verizon turns on the 4g in the area I might need a booster inside the house. They are rather expensived so I thought I'd ask you. Thanks.
talk to a verizon tech about that one, because i'm not sure it would work. we have boosters all over our hospital but they only amplify phone signal not lte data. every time i go inside i lose 4g but have 3g and my signal is at 4-5 bars.
I have the verizon network extender, because I have one bar at my house without it and you really cant have a phone call with out the call getting drooped. When your phone is just sitting on the table it has the same one bar you have without the extender. As soon you press the talk button on the phone you get all the bars and the call now is coming though the network extender. The phone makes a tone at the beginning of the call to let you know that your on the extender. The extender is only capable of 1x ever. So..... When I am looking at the screen, but not on a call, of either my touch pro 2 or thunderbolt on 3g it says 3 g and does data fine. But the signal strength is one or no bars. With the thunderbolt on 4g, it switches between 3g and 4g and kills the battery in a few hours. I seem to live in a total dead zone for all cell companys. My conclusion is that the data signal is more forgiving than the voice signal and that the extender will only handle data if it has no other choice. The network extender is definitely not gonna address your concern. The other kind that boosts all signals.... well either verizon and sprint or ATT and T-mobile might, but I am gonna bet that you would need one that is specific to verizon 4g. I hope all that helps.
A very good friend of mine works on cell towers for a living. He point blank told me that the boosters can cause you almost more difficulty. As he explained it, you won't get better reception than standing outside your house and you are also more prone to dropped calls. Part of the problem is that the range on the booster is really low and you often need line of sight to the booster.
I was having the same problem at home (upstate NY) when I tried using 4G: very low signal (0-1 bar in general, maybe 2 when I'm lucky:icon_ banana. I got really frustrated so I started looking for solutions.
I came across this 4G booster that works only with the Verizon network:
Cellphone-Mate CM700 70dB LTE Amplifier (700 MHz)http://www.quantum-wireless.com/store/index.php/cellphone-mate-cm700-70db-lte-amplifier-700-mhz.html
It looks like a rather new product because I couldn't find many reviews. So I looked for other Cellphone mate products, they seem to work fine.
This booster is made for Verizon and I don't know anything about the technical stuff (700MHz, 70dB?!) but I believe these should be enough. And, well I know for sure that I don't have to cover 20,000 sqft, so it might just work!
What do you guys think?
