How do I turn off the severe alerts?

How do I turn off the severe alerts that regularly come thru notifications? I know there is a way to select not to receive those alerts but i can't remember. Can anyone help?
Also, my S3 is a battery eater. I don't even get thru a day sometimes if I use it alot.

If you open up the app and go to your settings you can turn off everything but the Presidential alerts.

On the S3, the emergency alerts are managed through the settings in the Messaging app. As Sydman said, you can turn all of them off except the Presidential alerts.

Unless you're rooted, in which case I believe you can kill the app by changing the name.
