How do you unlock the SIM on the Droid 2 Global?

I plan on picking up the D2 Global this week and would like to unlock the SIM card. The existing VZW policy is that they will only unlock the SIM once your phone has been active on the line for 60 days. I'll be going abroad before the 60 day mark and I'm wondering if there is any way to do this on my own?

Have you told them you'll be going abroad sooner then 60 days? My dad did the same thing when we went to Ireland and e was able to get it unlocked for use over there.
