Yeah, it sounds like it's operating about right to me. Now, rooted on BB0.4 where Pete tweaks the memory mgmt, I run 40-60 megs free.

Memory or internal storage? "Normal" is going to depend on your specific usage (stock or not). You'd need to establish a base line for yourself.
