How to Certificate root a PFX cert?

I'm running an original Droid with 2.2 (not with the add on 2.2). I need to enable a PFX cert for SSL for my droid to get on the webpage, but can't seem to make it work.

I've not rooted my phone. Is there a way to get the cert working without root?
