Android Marshmallow is still a long ways away from saturation yet Android continues to push onward with newer and greater builds of Android. The latest iteration dubbed Android N is in the developer preview stages as we speak with possibly a final build being released at Google I/O. You can actually run this new version of Android on your Nexus phone or tablet now. Normally you would have to flash the build manually.

This time around Google has developed a super simple method for installing the dev preview. Essentially you just enroll into the developer program and you are able to receive OTA updates. For now updates are available for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Pixel C, and Nexus Player.

-First head to Google.com/Android/beta on your phone
-sign into your Google account
-Chose Enroll device next to the device you want to install the preview on
-Agree to the Agreement
-Choose Join Beta
-You will then choose Download Now when the OTA notification comes through
-Then Choose restart and install
-DONE!

I would advise to unlock your bootloader before doing anything. That way you can flash the stock image if something goes wrong.

I've been using N beta on my N6 for months. Plenty of apps will not update and there are random crashes/lockups. A restart usually fixes all that, temporarily.
But my bootloader is unlocked in case I want to go back. ;)
