How to get Notifications/other sounds through Bluetooth?

I recently bought a Bluetooth headset (Jaybird Freedom)

It works really well, EXCEPT, if I get an email or a text or other notification, it first plays on the phone then plays again over Bluetooth.

What? Shouldn't it do one or the other? I don't understand. I'd prefer it just to go to Bluetooth and that's it. I must have something set incorrectly somewhere.

Ideas?
